Coast To Kosci 2020 Athletes Announced

The 2020 list of athletes is available here.

17 August, 2020 Update

Hi Everyone,

We’re delaying announcement of the 50 successful athletes by 4 weeks until 21 September to allow the COVID-19 picture for interstate and overseas athletes to hopefully be clearer.

The easiest thing would be to announce 50 athletes on Monday as planned. People from outside NSW would then have to decide whether or not they book travel (insanely expensive at present), hotels etc and seek border permits. We’re not sure authorities currently see running 240km as ‘exceptional circumstances’ to warrant a border permit! It’s also too early to call it a ‘NSW only’ event either.

In the interim, please ensure you (and your support crews) understand current COVID-19 border restrictions from State Government websites. Think deeply about the impacts and commitments of travel and crossing borders should your application be successful and borders remain closed – it really is important for yourself, your family, your support crew and their families.

FYI, we’re confident of the 2020 Coast To Kosci going ahead. Coast to Kosci is registered as a COVID Safe entity, and we’re planning around a number of COVID considerations and contingencies. This includes pre-race briefings in advance of December via Zoom; gear, bib and safety signage pickups at outdoor venues, a staggered start etc. We’ll continue to plan for all eventualities as much as possible.

11 August, 2020 Update

Thank you to everyone who has applied for entry. There's a large number of applicants to consider and a lot of qualifying results to review. Please allow us a couple of weeks to determine the invitation list, and we’ll definitely notify everyone by Monday 24 August. Until then, relax and enjoy the nervous wait.....

Here’s how the entries panned out:
- 100 entries
- 32 entrants from 2018
- 45 “Previous Finishers” and 55 “Athletes on Debut”
- 28 female entries compared to 72 male entries
- ACT=1; NSW=60; QLD=13; SA=5; TAS=1; VIC=17; WA=1; Japan=1; Scotland=1

29 July, 2020 Update

Australia’s premier ultramarathon, the 240km Coast To Kosciuszko, will return for 2020. The return of the event was announced this evening via Zoom in conjunction with the Australian Ultra Runners Association (AURA) and the Blue Mountains Running Co. (BMRC).

Race Directors Greg Wallace and Mickey Campbell beamed “We are delighted to help with the return of the iconic Coast To Kosciuszko”.

“Coast To Kosciuszko is renowned, revered and loved amongst the Australian Ultra Running community – and well beyond – and the 2020 event will evoke the spirit of past events”.

The 240km race is invitation only and is limited to 50 of the best ultra-marathon runners in the country. The race starts on the beach at Eden, NSW and finishes 240km later at Charlotte Pass after the runners have summitted Mount Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest peak.

Coast To Kosciuszko will be held in its traditional timeslot of the first weekend in December, commencing 5:30am Friday 4 December, with the cut-off time of 3:30am Sunday 6 December. It will be the 12th time the iconic ultramarathon has been held.

“We are humbled that Paul Every and Diane Weaver have entrusted Coast To Kosciuszko to our care”, said Greg and Mickey.

Coast To Kosciuszko, the most challenging ultramarathon in Australia was last held in 2017. Entries open 3 August via the website which will be updated soon.
